Overview
With funding from Civil Society in Development (CISU), Denmark, and implemented by the Agency for Accelerated Regional Development (AFARD) in partnership with Seniors without Borders (SwB), PDCC Limited conducted a Local Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Practices Study in May 2024.
The study assessed traditional and local experiences of climate change, identified existing coping mechanisms, and recommended strategies to build climate resilient model villages in Ngali and Jafurnga. Participatory approaches such as community focus groups, key informant interviews, transect walks and climate timeline analysis ensured that local knowledge guided the findings.
Impact
✔ Communities reported stronger awareness of climate change causes, impacts and coping strategies.
✔ Documentation of over 20 years of climate change experiences in Nebbi district.
✔ Identification of local adaptation practices such as crop diversification, drought resistant varieties and small scale irrigation.
✔ Recommendations provided to guide SECAP in restoring indigenous trees, improving food security and diversifying livelihoods.
